1 Year of the Voice of the Athlete Working Group #OneWorldNetball

A year ago today, 29th June 2022, World Netball launched the Voice of the Athlete Working Group, as part of its core strategy ‘Govern’.

The govern strategy set out that World Netball would remain a leader of best practice, and setting up the Athlete working group was key to this as it allowed World Netball to work collaboratively with those that live and breathe netball every day in order to develop the sport.

The Working Group consists of current international athletes with at least 3-years’ international playing experience and has been endorsed by their Member/Regional Federation or Executive Board. The athletes have been selected to ensure representation across the 5 World Netball Regions across teams ranked 1-5, 6-20, and 21+.

The group is supported by World Netball Board Directors, Lyn Carpenter for Europe, and Gaby Hochbaum for Asia, and chaired by Rhona Toft who brings a wealth of experience both as an international athlete in hockey and in sports governance through leadership of two athlete bodies.

Throughout 2021, the group have been working together to determine a suitable framework for a future Athletes Advisory Commission, which will be established following recommendations by the Working Group to the World Netball Board.

We asked the athletes and what they have enjoyed most about being part of the Voice of the Athlete working group in the last year, and we have collated their comments below:

We also want to know what your highlight from the first year of World Netball is, and you can let us know by tagging us on social media and using the hashtag #OneWorldNetball.

We will then be picking five winners to send some World Netball merchandise to when the competition closes on the 3rd July.
