Netball was introduced into the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and has been an integral part of the programme since. It is currently considered a ‘core sport’ and it’s position in the games has been assured for the foreseeable future with the ratification of ‘Transformation 2022 – the Strategic Plan of the Commonwealth Games Federation 2015-2022’.
The top netballing nations are all Commonwealth countries and there is a close alignment between the values of the CGF and the INF.
The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games hosted the official draw ceremony for the GC2018 Netball competition on the Gold Coast on Wednesday, August 16 as they unveiled the full match schedule for next year’s 4-15 April Commonwealth Games.
The GC2018 Netball Competition is based on two pools of six teams. During the preliminary round phase of the competition, each team will play every other team in their pool in a round robin format.
The drawing of teams into pools is based on the International Netball Federation (INF) World Rankings for the top six ranked teams. The remaining teams will be drawn into each pool randomly, with the INF to oversee this process. The official pools are as follows:
