Lightning end Thunders unbeaten streak as things heat up in the top four

Round 6 of the UK’s Netball Super League was full of the most surprises yet, with Cardiff Dragons beating in form Severn Stars, Loughborough Lighting ending Manchester Thunder’s unbeaten streak and Rhino’s losing to Pulse by just two.

The international Netball Family were able to watch both Lightning and Pulses thrilling victories live on NetballPass.

First up, Pulse travelled to Rhinos on Friday night, and it was the away side that started the strongest, taking a 7-goal lead into half-time.

However, Rhinos charged into the second half closing the gap to three in the penultimate quarter and leaving it all still to play for in the final 15.

Malawi Queen Joyce Mvula was instrumental in Rhino’s comeback as she missed just one goal the whole match, taking her season tally up to 221 and putting her second in the leagues goal scoring charts behind Ugandan She Crane and Lightning star, Mary Cholhok.

In the final quarter, England Roses Halimat Adio and Funmi Fadoju were a force to be reckoned with for Pulse as they tightened the pressure on Rhinos, doubling marking Mvula and seeing out the win.

On Saturday the international Netball Family were treated to even more show stopping netball with Lightning ending Thunders unbeaten streak.

Thunder took an early lead, but Lightning struck back in the second quarter with SPAR Protea, Nicola Smith and England Rose, Alice Harvey unstoppable in defence for the visitors.

Lightning went on to win the 2nd and 3rd quarters, with Harvey crucial to the team performance as she made six deflections, which she was later awarded Player of the Match for as her side won 52 – 64.
