New Zealand’s ANZ Premiership: Elimination Final International Player Watch

The Elimination Final took place in the ANZ Premiership this weekend, with Stars coming out on top by one against Pulse in front of a sell-out crowd.

Despite winning three out of the four quarters, it was not to be for Pulse as Stars shone in the penultimate quarter putting on a shooting masterclass.

At half-time the score line sat at 29-25 in Pulse’s favour, with their Silver Fern Maddy Gordon the stand-out player on the court as she kept coming through with the interceptions to edge her team back in front.

The tables soon turned in the third quarter though, with Stars making two early turnovers to start what was to be their elimination final come-back.

The visitors went on to score 16 goals in 15-minutes, compared to Pulse’s eight, with Silver Fern Maia Wilson and Amorangi Malesala really beginning to work well together under the post moving the ball around until they found the right shooting opportunity.

Following this match Wilson is the league’s most accurate shooter, having netted 94% her 671 attempts at goal this season.

Pulse then bounced back again in the fourth quarter, trying to respond to their third quarter mishap, but it was a case of running out of time as Stars went on to win 52-53 booking their place in the Grand Final against the Minor Premiership winners Mystics.

The Grand Final will take place at 4pm NZT Saturday 4th June.
