International Player Watch – Suncorp Super Netball League Semi-Finals

The Semi-Finals took place in the Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) League this weekend, with Vixens taking on Fever and Giants facing Magpies.

Both Semi-Finals were made up of sensational shooters that made the difference…

Vixens 62 – 71 Fever

The first team to book their place in the SSN Grand Final was Fever, as the beat Vixen’s 62-71 thanks to a shooting masterclass from Jamaican Sunshine Girl Jhaniele Fowler.

Fever’s Fowler missed just two goals in the Major Semi Final, adding 67 to Fever’s tally and making it her 5th season as the league’s leading goal scorer.

At the other end of the court, Fever’s Australian Diamonds defensive duo of Courtney Bruce and Sunday Aryang, made just as big of an impact as they made 11 Gains and 7 interceptions between them.

Thanks to a strong all round team performance, Fever were leading 19-10 by the end of the first quarter, before extending their lead to 12 goals by half-time.

Fever have now secured their place in the Grand Final, whilst Vixen’s must now play the winners of the Minor Semi-Final, between Giants and Magpies, in the Preliminary Final in order to reach the Grand Final.

Giants 55 – 48 Magpies

A second half blitz from Giants kept their Grand Finals hopes alive as they beat Magpies 55-48 in the Minor Semi-Final, booking their spot in the Preliminary Final against Vixen’s.

Giants were down by three at half-time but stepped it up in the second half scoring three two-point shots in the third quarter alone.

In the final quarter, England Rose Jo Harten then scored five successive shots to extend Giants lead even further and from then they didn’t let Magpies back into the game.

Harten scored 40 of her 44 shots, four of which were Super Shots and made a real difference for her Giants side.
