Dominica Netball Coaching Seminar & Netball Festival

Dominica Netball Association have had an exciting few months, hosting a Coaching Seminar and Netball Festival.

Coaching Seminar

On the 7th December 2018, Dominica Netball Association in collaboration with the OECS Commission hosted a coaching seminar in Portsmouth, Dominica.

The seminar was facilitated by Ms. Bridget Adams, from Trinidad, whose expertise of techniques and knowledge was well received by the participants and executive members.

President of Dominica Netball Association, Mrs. Regina Walsh attended the seminar, along with Sports Coordinator Mr. Trevor Shillingford, Portsmouth Town Council representative Mr. Samuel William and Sports Division Coordinator Ms. Fiona Williams.

The 2-day sessions covered different topics including The Role of the Coach & bringing parents on board. They also received training around dealing with player behaviours and techniques for proper communication in a coaching setting.

The event received sponsorship from the Dominica Olympic Committee and was rated a success by all involved.

Northern District Netball Festival

On the 27th January 2019, Dominica Netball Association hosted a Netball Festival at Benjamin’s Part, Portsmouth, Dominica. The event was organised to raise awareness of the sport of Netball on a local level.

A number of clubs from around the community participated, including a boys team.

The participating teams were:

  • Zicak
  • Lagoon
  • Chance
  • Gianvillia
  • Picard
  • The Academy
  • U-14 1
  • U-14 2
  • Portsmouth Secondary U-16
  • Saint James Academy U-16
  • All Stars (Boys)

After an intense day of competitions, Zicak took the victorious 1st place after their win against All Stars in the finals.
