St. Lucia win the Grenada Netball Tournament

Over the weekend the first international netball event of the year took place in Grenada where St. Lucia were victorious.

All three teams in the closing ceremony

St. Lucia, St. Vincent & Grenadines and hosts Grenada all took part in the competition over the weekend. All three teams played each other twice over the course of the weekend.

The eventual winners, St. Lucia were the highest ranked side going into this tournament, currently sitting at 18th in the INF World Rankings. The hosts, Grenada, aren’t too far behind in 23rd and St Vincent & Grenadines currently do not have a ranking.

The tournament took place at the Tanteen Netball Complex on Friday, the 12th and concluded on Sunday (14th).

All three teams did secure at least one victory, demonstrating that this was a closely contested tournament. This was certainly the case in the final match of the tournament where the hosts, Grenada, defeated St Vincent & Grenadines by a single goal (53-52).

International Umpiring Manager (IUM), Christina Davidson, was present at the event and said the following;

‘Congratulations to Grenada Netball Association for hosting such an inspiring International Netball Tournament. It was played with such spirit and friendship with St. Lucia winning the most matches but Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines coming away with a win. It was a competitive and thrilling event with the results indicating how close all the matches were. Thanks goes to Grenada Netball Association for positively promoting netball in the Americas Region and being such gracious hosts to the visiting teams, myself, INF IUM, Carmeta Douglin, INF ROC for the Americas and the appointed Umpires and UAP.’
