International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

Uganda and Loughborough Lightning netballer, Peace Proscovia, took part in the 2nd Commonwealth Debate on Sport and Sustainable Development to mark International Day of Sport for Development and Peace on April 6th.

The subject of the debate, which took place at Australia House, London, was: “Corruption in elite sport undermines the potential to promote development and peace through community sports.”

The panel included speakers from Malta, Uganda, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

The debate is part of the Commonwealth’s work supporting member countries and national institutions to strengthen policy frameworks and strategies that maximise the positive contribution sports-based approaches can make to national development priorities and Sustainable Development Goals.

The closing remarks were made by Louise Martin CBE, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, pictured with Peace, both holding up white cards for peace to mark the day.
