Coaching Advisory Panel Diversity

World Netball is fully committed to the principles of equality of opportunity and is responsible for ensuring that no employees, job applicants, office holders, volunteers, consultants or members of committees and panels are unlawfully discriminated against because of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.

With all roles advertised, World Netball welcomes applications from all suitably qualified individuals irrespective of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.

When World Netball first opened the application process for the Coaching Advisory Panel (CAP) in 2022, the pool of applicants received was not diverse in terms of gender or race, and there were no applicants from countries within two of the World Netball regions.

The World Netball Board agreed that ensuring CAP had a world view and a broad range of experiences was important in order to provide the support that our Members seek in relation to coaching. So the application process was re-opened, and all our Regional Directors were asked for their support in increasing the pool of potential CAP members to provide a wider range of skills, experience and diversity to the panel.

Unfortunately, this second round did not result in a more diverse pool of applicants. However, World Netball is committed to continuing to increase the diversity of its workforce, and one of the first aims of the CAP Chair, Dr Anita Navin, is to consider how to do this in coaching.

Prior to the announcement, and following her appointment as Chair in September 2022, Anita has been in contact with all Regions who do not have representation on CAP. Each Board member was asked to provide a link person from their Region, whom CAP will now aim to engage with as part of a working group. This group will connect and provide a more diverse voice to the table – in the hope in the next cycle these individuals feel they have the confidence and skills to apply.
