10 things you can expect from Fast5 World Netball Series

With Fast5 only a mere 10 days away, we have come up with 10 things that you can expect from this years competition in Melbourne.

1) Netball like you’ve never seen it before

Fast5 is a dynamic variation of the sport that is unlike anything else. 5 a side rules, six minute quarters, power-plays, 3 point opportunities – all add up to a thrilling fast pace game of netball!

2) Top teams

Six teams compete at the Fast5 Netball World Series and they happen to be the top six ranked teams in the world. Australia, New Zealand, England, Jamaica, South Africa and Malawi will all feature in Melbourne.

3) World class players

The top teams obviously consist of world class players who will be featuring throughout the weekend. Markya Holtzhausen, Kate Moloney, Storm Purvis, Ama Agbeze just to name a few. Full announced squads can be found here.

4) An electric atmosphere

For many, the Fast5 Netball World Series is known as ‘the biggest party’ in the netball calendar. With crowds gathering from all over the world, expect the Hisense Arena to be rocking over the weekend.

5) Unpredictable matches

The nature of any Fast5 game is that anything can happen and this is no different in the World Series. Teams who use their power-play effectively can turn a game around in the matter of minutes. Who could forget last year when Malawi scored 28 points in 6 minutes when they activated their power-play?

6) Plenty of goals scored

An estimated 1000 goals to be scored is expected across the two days of competition, a staggering amount!

7) New Zealand chasing title number 7

New Zealand have dominated this event in recent years and will be looking to win their 7th Fast5 Netball World Series title in Melbourne. If the Silver Ferns do take the title, it will be their 5th in a row.

8) Breathtaking long range goals

With three points at stake for a goal outside the inner circle, expect to see crazy goals that you wouldn’t see in a normal game of netball. Take note of those long throw specialists in each team.

9) Charismatic celebrations

Who wouldn’t celebrate a victory at the Netball World Series? Expect to see flamboyant celebrations throughout the two days of competition.
