Here is this week’s International Player Watch:

NSW Swifts vs Giants Netball

NSW Swifts recorded their first victory since Round 2 in their local derby against Giants Netball.

Swifts swooped into this clash with a calmness about them which saw them keep possession of the ball and move freely with composure down the court.

Australian Diamond Maddy Proud was at the centre of it all from the outset, as she played her part both in attack and defence making 17 goal assists and 28 feeds, as well as four gains and three turnovers.

Whilst in the shooting circle, New Zealand Silver Fern Grace Nweke had arguably her best game of the season so far scoring 61 of her 69 1-point shots to help Swifts win the first three quarters comfortably and go into the last 15 minutes with a 58 – 39 lead.

Nweke now sits top of the goals scored charts with 343 to her name so far this season.

Giants did grow into the game and eventually win the final quarter; however, it was too little too late as Swifts took a 72 – 59 victory.

Adelaide Thunderbirds vs Sunshine Coast Lightning

Next up live on NetballPass*, international fans were treated to a thriller with Adelaide Thunderbirds beating Sunshine Coast Lightning by one, 61 – 60, to take them to six wins for the season so far.

This was a game you could not take your eyes off as the lead ebbed and flowed throughout.

It was Lightning that struck first, taking a 11-16 lead into the first break, however, Thunderbirds then shook things up in the second quarter winning this one 20-13.

In the second half, nothing seemed to able to seperate the two sides with the score at the end of the penultimate quarter 45 – 44 in Thunderbirds favour.

The two teams went on to score 16 each in the final 15 minutes, allowing Thunderbirds to edge out the win by one despite Lightnings strong start.

For the home side it was their international shooter Elmeré van der Berg that continued to make the difference scoring 57 goals from 61 attempts, making that 339 goals for the South Africa SPAR Protea so far this season.

New Zealand Silver Fern Kate Heffernan was also crucial to Thunderbirds success in centre court as she made 15 goal assists, 23 feeds, four gains and three turnovers.

Queensland Firebirds vs Melbourne Mavericks

Speaking of thrillers, Queensland Firebirds vs Melbourne Mavericks then offered more of the same as Mavericks beat Firebirds in similar fashion by just one goal, 57-58.

The teams took a quarter each in the first half, leaving the score at 32 – 33 in Mavericks favour going into the main break.

In the second half the game went goal for goal with nothing separating the two sides, as they drew both the third and fourth quarters.

Having been on the wrong end of two one goal results this season, Mavericks showed their experience and class making sure it was third time lucky to see out the victory.

Every time Firebirds would catch Mavericks in the final 15, they would find another way to respond and regain the lead before they played the possession game to run down the clock.

Maverick’s goal shooter Jamaican Sunshine Girl Shimona Nelson earned the most Nissan Net Points in this game as she scored 42 goals, with a shooting accuracy of 92%.

West Coast Fever vs Melbourne Vixens

The final game of the round saw a repeat of the Grand Final 2025, West Coast Fever vs Melbourne Vixens.

Last seasons winners and the leagues only unbeaten side in 2026, Melbourne Mavericks, were able to make it seven from seven, as the beat Fever 44 – 50.

Fever came out strong with their defence on top form as they attempted to rattle Vixen’s solid attacking line-up.

However, Vixens held their nerve and Australian Diamond Sophie Garbin was ever accurate to make sure that they utilised every opportunity and won the opening quarter 10-12.

From then on Vixens always seemed in control with Diamond Kate Moloney key in the centre court with 15 goal assists and 30 feeds, acting as a real play maker.

Fever did bounce back again in quarter four and, powered on by their home fans, showed Vixens this wasn’t over yet as they battled for every ball.

Despite winning quarter four, they weren’t able to make up the 11 goal deficit they found themselves in after a dominant quarter three from Vixens.
