Netball Super League International Player Watch – Round 3

The Netball Super League (NSL) Round 3 took place this weekend live on NetballPass*, BBC and Sky Sports, with London Pulse winning the first London Derby of the season and Thunder and Lightning weathering up a storm as they both push for the second place spot in the table.

Here is this week’s international player spotlight:

London Pulse vs London Mavericks

In the first London Derby of the season, it was London Pulse that outclassed London Mavericks, beating them 78-42.

The international player from this match we couldn’t take our eyes off was England Rose, Zara Everitt.

Everitt was untouchable at wing defence, as she constantly delayed and prevented Maverick’s attack, never quite letting them find their rhythm.

Everitt was awarded Player of the Match for her performance.

Cardiff Dragons vs Birmingham Panthers

This game was postponed due to an unfortunate injury to Cardiff Dragons, Leah Middleton.

Dragons issued a statement saying: “Leah Middleton sustained an injury during last night’s match and in now scheduled to undergo surgery.”

On behalf of World Netball, and the wider Netball Family, we are sending all our well wishes to the Welsh Feather following her injury.

Manchester Thunder vs Nottingham Forest

This week’s international spotlight in the Manchester Thunder vs Nottingham Forest game goes to South Africa SPAR Protea Nicola Smith, on her Thunder debut.

Smith worked tirelessly at Goal Keeper for Thunder, alongside Josie Huckle.

The new defensive duo worked seamlessly together, ensuring Thunder could take an early lead in the first quarter, and holding off any Forest fight back.

Leeds Rhinos vs Loughborough Lightning

The Super Shot was very well used in the final game of the weekend, with both Leeds Rhinos and Loughborough Lightning not afraid to put up the long shot.

Lightning were able to sink 13 Super Shots, whilst Rhino’s put up an impressive 11.

The difference came in the mid-court where Lightning were able capitalise on Rhinos errors, with England Rose Hannah Joseph proving to be one to watch as she made 36 feeds, two deflections and one pick up at wing attack, as her Lightning side won 58-72.
