Netball Super League International Player Watch – Round 12

The Netball Super League (NSL) Round 12 took place this weekend live on NetballPass*, BBC and Sky Sports, with Manchester Thunder securing their Semi-Final spot and Emily Andrew scoring a list minute winner to keep London Mavericks in the top four for another week.   

Here is this week’s international player spotlight:

 Manchester Thunder vs Cardiff Dragons

Manchester Thunder became the third team to secure their Semi-Finals spot, as they beat Cardiff Dragons 59 – 54.

South Africa SPAR Protea Nicola Smith was crucial to Thunder’s victory as she worked tirelessly in defence to ensure the Dragon’s couldn’t quite catch them in the final quarter. 

The defensive duo of Smith and Josie Huckle made four rebounds, five deflections and 10 gains between them.

Loughborough Lightning vs Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest prevented Lightning from striking back in the final quarter, beating defending champions and already confirmed Semi-Finalists, 62-66.

The win means that Forest have done the double over Lightning this season, and it also keeps their own Semi-Final hopes alive as they sit in 5th.

Tash Pavelin was on fire in defence as she made four deflections, two interceptions and three pick-ups, and was eventually awarded the Player of the Match award.

London Pulse vs Leeds Rhinos  

London Pulse reclaimed the top spot in the table as they charged down Leeds Rhinos in Round 12 of the NSL.

Pulse did not miss a beat in the first half, as they took a 42 -18 lead into the main break.

England Rose Sophie Kelly was clinical in the Pulse shooting circle as she had scored seven Super Shots by half time.

Pulse went on to win the match 73 – 50.

Birmingham Panthers vs London Mavericks

London Mavericks Emily Andrew scored a last-minute Super Shot to secure her team at 69-67 win against Birmingham Panthers.

The win means that Mavericks remain in fourth place keeping their Semi-Final hopes alive.

Australian Andrew scored 18 goals and seven Super Shots overall in the nail-biting clash.
