World Netball will hold a special meeting of Congress today, Saturday 29th January 2022.
Congress, which is the meeting of the Members of World Netball, will be held virtually for the second time in World Netball’s history due to the unprecedented constraints of COVID.
Ordinary meetings of Congress are held once every two years, however this special meeting has been called primarily for the Members to vote on the appointment of the Federation’s first truly independent Director. The Board is ready to make its recommendation following an open, publicly advertised recruitment process led by its Nominations Committee.
This appointment is another important step in the evolution of the governance structure of World Netball. Independent non-executive directors on a Board have been shown to enhance decision making by providing objective scrutiny and offering an independent perspective, drawing on their current and previous experience from outside of an organisation.
World Netball President, Liz Nicholl CBE, will open Congress at 11:30 GMT today with over 60 delegates expected to be present.
The voting delegates will then have the opportunity to approve the minutes from the previous meeting of Congress in 2021, before additional items submitted by World Netball Full Members will be discussed.
Also on the agenda is an application for Associate World Netball Membership from Venezuela, in the Americas Netball region.
Following the Congress World Netball President and CEO, Clare Briegal will host a member update meeting outlining progress on delivering the strategic plan and highlighting the exciting netball events due to take place this year and next including the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, Fast5 Netball World Series 2022 in Christchurch NZ, the Netball World Cup Cape Town 2023 and the five regional qualifiers.
We will be posting live updates throughout the day on our social media, so make sure you are following us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook from 11:30 GMT for all the latest.
