World Netball has today announced England Netballer, Geva Mentor CBE, as its Athlete Ambassador for the Europe region.
Having been selected for the senior England squad at the age of 15, Geva has since gone on to win 2 bronze and 1 gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and 3 bronze medals at the Netball World Cup in her two decades involved in the sport.
Outside of her international game, Mentor has extended her netball fan-base whilst playing in the Vitality Netball Superleague, ANZ Championship and most recently the Suncorp Super Netball league in Australia.
On top of this, Mentor has also made a name for herself off the court as an author having released her book Leap: Making the jump to take netball to the top of the world in 2019.
Mentor’s global presence is something that stands out to World Netball President, Liz Nicholl CBE. Nicholl commented: “Geva’s accolades are second to none.
“Geva is an inspiration to netballers all around the world.
“Her ambition to raise the game and take it to new heights both on and off the court aligns with World Netball’s vision and I look forward to working with her to grow the game and inspire netballers in Europe and across the globe.”
Speaking on her feelings about being selected as an Ambassador Mentor added: “I am extremely honoured to become the World Netball Athlete Ambassador for the Europe region, especially amongst the plethora of talented netballers we have in our European community.
“I’m excited to empower, inspire and support everything netball as it’s a sport that’s instilled some great values in me, given me everlasting friendships and provided me with so many wonderful opportunities to leave this game in a better place for current and future generations.”
Mentor is the 3rd Athlete Ambassador to be announced since the re-brand of the International Netball Federation to World Netball.
