Stars Shoot Closer to Their First Ever Top 4 Finish

Round 15 of the Netball Super League (NSL) saw Severn Stars shoot ever closer to their first ever NSL top four finish, as they beat Saracens Mavericks 59-55 live on NetballPass.

It wasn’t an easy victory for Jo Trip’s Stars side, with Mavericks going into the main break four goals to the good after a tightly contested first half.

However, following the half-time break Stars flew out the blocks winning the penultimate quarter 20-11, taking control of their destiny and eventually winning the game 59-55.

South African SPAR Protea, Sigi Burger, continued to impress for Stars shooting at 94%, whilst Jas Brown, who has just been included in the latest Vitality Roses programme, backed up her selection as she made two gains in a dominant performance at goal keeper.

The victory now means that if Stars beat Leeds Rhinos next Saturday they will have secured the last Semi-Finals spot available.

The second NSL game on NetballPass this weekend was Surrey Storm vs Leeds Rhinos, with both teams fighting for that 5th place spot to stay hot on the tails of Stars in 4th.

Storm started strong in front of their home crowd, but the Rhinos defensive duo of retired England Rose, Geva Mentor, and Australian, Zoe Davies, proved too strong for the hosts.

Mentor made four interceptions and five deflections in the match, whilst Davies picked up another two interceptions and one deflection.

The duos defensive efforts saw Rhinos take the win 55-63, cementing their spot in 5th.

Elsewhere in the NSL, all three confirmed semi-finalists, Manchester Thunder, Loughborough Lightning and London Pulse, secured victories against Team Bath, Strathclyde Sirens, and Cardiff Dragons respectively.

Next up on NetballPass, the international Netball Family will be able to watch Saracens Mavericks vs Cardiff Dragons, and two confirmed semi-finalists, Manchester Thunder and London Pulse go head-to-head.
