World Netball (WN) is pleased to announce it has been shortlisted for the ‘Best Governing Body’ category at the Sports Business Awards 2024 (SBA).
This award is to recognise a governing body which has been effective in achieving its outcomes with defined and measurable success.
The SBAs were looking for examples of fan engagement, promotion of the sport the body represents and encouragement of participation initiatives.
WN submitted an entry based on the clear and measurable success of its OTT platform NetballPass, which was launched in 2022 alongside its Member Netball New Zealand, with the aim to help WN on its mission to expand netball’s worldwide reach, revenue and capacity, under its core strategy GROW.
Since its launch, over 54,000 users from 155 different countries have registered for the platform, with a significant proportion of those also opting in to receive direct marketing from WN, growing its first party data base.
Not only has the platform helped WN grow its global audience, by supplying live and on demand match content in countries where no broadcast deals were in place, it has also helped WN reach a younger audience with 48% of the users under the age of 34.
Further increasing WN’s growth and impact on its fans, at the start of 2024 WN joined forces with two more of its Members, England Netball and Netball Australia, to make all three of the elite domestic leagues available for international fans in one place for the first time, improving user experience and giving the fans a chance to form an even stronger connection with their favourite international athletes during the domestic season.
This is the second category that WN has been shortlisted for at the SBA 2024 , with the governing body already being shortlisted for the ‘Best Fan Engagement Programme’.
