Thunderbirds Fly Through to the Grand Final, as Lightning Bow Out

The international Netball Family were treated to two thrilling Suncorp Super Netball League (SSN) Semi Finals this weekend live on NetballPass.

First up, was the Major Semi Final between Thunderbirds and Vixens and a ticket straight through to the Grand Final was up for grabs in this one.

Table toppers Thunderbirds flew into this clash, dominating from the first whistle and winning every quarter.

The home sides shooting circle was unstoppable with young gun Lauren Frew teaming up seamlessly with Jamaican Sunshine Girl, Romelda Aiken-George.

Frew’s movement was crucial as she created the much-needed space for Aiken-George, whilst the young goal attack also scored all 16 of her shots.

Frew was later awarded Player of the Match for her performance, as Thunderbirds won convincingly, 68-43, booking their spot in the Grand Final.

For Vixen’s this result means they now face the long route to the Grand Final, as they need to win the Preliminary Final in order to have the chance to get their revenge on Thunderbirds in the Grand Final.

It is Fever, the winners of the Minor Semi Final, that await Vixens in the Preliminary Final.

Fever didn’t have an easy ride booking their spot in the Preliminary Final though with a very tightly contested Minor Semi Final against Lightning.

The two teams were eventually separated by 10 goals, following four minor quarter wins for Fever, but Lightning always looked like they could strike back.

However, the experience of Fever proved too much for the young Lightning team in the end.

Jamaican Sunshine Girls Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard and Kadie-Ann Dehaney lead the way, with Fowler-Nembhard scoring all 16 of Fever’s goals in the first quarter before eventually going on to score all 67 of her one-point shots.

At the other end of the court Kadie-Ann Dehaney teamed up well with Australian Diamond Sunday Aryang in defence, with Dehaney making eight gains and one interception to keep Fevers Finals hopes alive, as they won 72-62.

This result sadly brings an end to Lightnings season.

You can purchase a NetballPass Finals pass now for just £4.99 GBP, which will allow you to catch up on both Semi-Finals, watch the Preliminary Final between Vixens and Fever, and the Grand Final between the winners of that match and Thunderbirds, the winners of the Major Semi Final.
