The Suncorp Super Netball League (SSN) began this weekend with Melbourne Mavericks, Adelaide Thunderbirds, Melbourne Vixens and West Coast Fever getting off to winning starts live on NetballPass.*, Kayo Sports, Foxtel and Binge.
Each round this season we will pick international players from every match that we believe deserve a spotlight:
Melbourne Mavericks vs Giants
Melbourne Mavericks got off to a flying start in the SSN this season, beating Giants 61-52.
With plenty of new faces and combinations on court, it took both teams a while to settle into this contest.
All four quarters were extremely close, with Mavericks utilising the Super Shot well to edge them ahead at the end of each quarter.
At the end of the opening 15 minutes, Jamaican Sunshine Girl Shimona Nelson scored the first Super Shot of the SSN season to give her team the initial 15-12 lead at the first break, and Tonga’s Uneeq Palavi was then just as accurate in the second half, scoring five out of eight of her Super Shots for Mavericks.

Adelaide Thunderbirds vs NSW Swifts
There was lots to celebrate for Adelaide Thunderbirds this weekend, as they marked their clubs 30th anniversary and welcomed back co-captain Shamera Sterling from maternity leave.
The Jamaican Sunshine Girls shone against NSW Swifts, making three gains and two turnovers, whilst at the other end of the court Thunderbirds new recruit South Africa SPAR Protea, Elmere van der berg stood up to the test scoring 59/61 shots.
Thunderbirds all round clinical performance saw them go on to win the match 74-54, and you catch up on NetballPass, here.
Queensland Firebirds vs Melbourne Vixens
Melbourne Vixen’s started the 2026 season just how they finished the 2025 one, with the defending Champions pulling off a commanding 49-60 victory over Queensland Firebirds.
The hosts got off to a strong start, taking the initial 12-9 lead early in the first quarter, thanks to Ugandan She Crane shooter Mary Cholhok being accurate as ever scoring five of Firebirds first six goals.
However, as with all good Champions Vixens never looked worried and found a way to bounce back and regain control before the first break, with captain and Australian Diamond Kate Moloney leading the way in the centre third.
Moloney later went on to win Player of the Match thanks to her 25 feeds, 11 goal assists and four gains as Vixens won 49-60 away from home.

West Coast Fever vs Sunshine Coast Lightning
The final match of Round 1 was the closest, with Sunshine Cast Lightning nearly making the first comeback of the season against West Coast Fever.
Returning to court in the league for the first time since their Grand Final disappointment, a new look Fever side had a point to prove.
The home team won the first three quarters, with England Rose Sasha Glasgow crucial to the team in the shooting circle on her debut as she scored five Super Shots, five goals and put in 27 goal assists whilst also receiving 17 centre passes acting as the real playmaker for the team.
Fever led 54-44 going into the final quarter, but Lightning then struck back through Cara Koenen Super Shots which reduced the gap to just three goals at the final whistle.
