Round 5 of the Suncorp Super Netball League (SSN) took place live on NetballPass.*, Kayo Sports, Foxtel and Binge this weekend with Australian Diamonds dominating on home soil.
Here is this week’s International Player Watch:
Queensland Firebirds vs Adelaide Thunderbirds
This was a contest that could have gone either way, with the lead changing hands multiple times throughout the 60 minutes.
It was Adelaide Thunderbirds that managed to hold on in the end, beating Queensland Firebirds 62-53.
One key player that fired Thunderbirds to victory was Jamaican Sunshine Girl Latanya Wilson, who despite missing her fellow domestic and international teammate Shamera Sterling in defence with her, still excelled making six intercepts and 10 gains, before being crowned Player of the Match.

West Coast Fever vs Melbourne Mavericks
West Coast Fever vs Melbourne Mavericks looked like it was going to follow suit, and be an extremely close contest in the opening minutes as the match went goal for goal.
However, West Coast Fever’s party soon started as they found their rhythm and took control of the game, going on to win by 17 goals, 78-61.
Fever’s captain Jess Anstiss was a key component to Fevers eventual win as the Australian showed her outstanding leadership and netball qualities, commanding the centre court receiving 12 centre passes and leading her team by example.

Sunshine Coast Lightning vs Giants Netball
Speaking of Australian Diamonds leading by example and dominating the centre court, Sunshine Coast Lightning have Liz Watson to thank for their triumph in Round 5.
Watson was key to the first phase of the centre pass for Lightning as she received more centre passes than any other player with 27, before going on to put in 44 feeds and 26 goal assists.
Lightning won the game 74-56 thanks to winning the first three quarters comfortably.

NSW Swifts vs Melbourne Vixens
Sticking with the theme of Australian Diamonds dominating, Sarah Klau was untouchable for NSW Swifts in defence, as they beat Melbourne Vixens 59-51.
At half time the score sat at 30-27 in Swifts favour, with the teams having taken a quarter each, meaning there was still everything to play for in the second half.
Klau was a player on a mission in the second half, as she came out hunting ball and working hard to ensure Swifts maintained their unbeaten start to the season.
The Australian Diamond finished the match with career-best statistics including two rebounds, five interceptions, nine gains and 13 deflections.
