Silver Ferns and Team Singapore players star in netball charity match

Silver Ferns players Kayla Cullen and Pheonix Karaka attended a recent charity netball match that included Team Singapore players and Members of the Singapore Parliament. The game was a highlight of the M1 Corporate Netball Challenge that took place on November 11.

The charity match is a significant feature of the event which has been running since 2013. Both Silver Ferns players captained a team each that had a mixture of personnel within. On Kayla Cullen’s team, was a fellow international player in Charmaine Soh who plays for Team Singapore. Alongside Soh, was various members of the M1 management team. On Pheonix Karaka’s team was Team Singapore players in Vanessa Lee, Yu Meiling, Chen Li and Melody Teo. Also joining them was Members of Parliament Mr Teo Ser Luck and Mr Lee Yi Shyan.

Fifteen goals were scored during the match in total, however, the significant figure that can be taken from that match is that, as a token of thanks for participating, M1 donated S$50,000 towards charities that work with underprivileged children and youths-at-risk causes.

Elsewhere at the event, 35 teams from 29 corporations competed against each other either competitively or socially.

Both Silver Ferns players, Kayla Cullen and Phoenix Karaka, will be sticking around in Singapore as they will be conducting netball clinics for schools and the national age groups. They will be sharing their experiences and skills of the game with young aspiring netballers as part of the M1 Schools Programme.
