With only two more weeks to go in the ANZ Premiership (ANZP) regular season, things are still looking tight at the top with Pulse leading Tactix but just one point following their Round 13 marginal victory.
Tactix took to court first in Round 13 beating Stars convincingly on Saturday, with New Zealand Silver Fern Aliyah Dunn once again shooting at 100% on her third week back in the ANZP.
Tactix won all four quarters, and eventually the game 54-65 leaving Pulse all the work to do if they wanted to finish Round 13 on top.
When Pulse then took to court on Monday, it looked as though the pressure had got to them, with their opposition Magic winning the first two quarters, and leading 42-40 at the final break.
However, like we have seen many times this season Pulse managed to bounce back when it mattered most in the last 15-minutes, winning this quarter 6 – 13, and the game 48 – 53.
Silver Fern Kelly Jackson was essential to this win, as she made 10 gains, two intercepts and eight deflections, ensuring a comeback was always on the cards.
It wasn’t just the fight for 1st and 2nd that heated up this week, the battle for 3rd also continued with Mystics beating Steel to reclaim that 3rd place spot.
Mystics flew into this game, dominating from the first whistle, as they went on to win all four quarters.
The home sides circle defence was untouchable in this contest, with up-and-coming Silver Fern Carys Stythe leading the way at goal defence as she made 5 gains in Mystics 68-47 victory.
Meanwhile at the other end of the court Mystics Samoan, Filda Vui, shot at 100%, scoring all 17 of her goals.
