It has been four fierce days of competition so far in Lusaka, Zambia, as the Netball World Cup 2019 Regional Qualifier – Africa intensifies.
Uganda and Zimbabwe lead the way with three victories from three games. Both teams will play each other on the final day of the competition (Saturday). Before then, Uganda will take on the hosts Zambia while Zimbabwe will take on Kenya.
This has been a historic event for Kenya as it is the first time they have participated in a Netball World Cup Regional Qualifying event.
The top two placed teams will advance to next year’s World Cup and as it stands it is Uganda and Zimbabwe currently occupying those positions. Zambia could cut the deficit if they were to beat Uganda on Friday.
The event has also been doubled up as the African Championship in which Malawi, who have already qualified for next year’s World Cup, have also been in action. So far, The Queens have secured victories over Zimbabwe and Botswana and have suffered defeats from Uganda and Zambia.
11 spaces separate Malawi (6th) and Zambia (17th) in the INF World Rankings, however, in front of their home fans Zambia pulled off a famous 56-54 victory.
