World Netball’s (WN) OTT Platform, NetballPass, has been named the ‘Best Fan Engagement Programme’ at the Sports Business Awards 2024 (SBA 2024) in London, after being shortlisted in August.
WN launched NetballPass in 2022, alongside its Member Netball New Zealand, with the aim being to increase the global reach of netball and make the game more accessible to more people more often.
Since then, the platform has built up an audience of over 55,000 registered users from over 150 different countries, showing the global reach that it is enabling.
It is also providing WN with a tool to target a younger audience, with 48% of registered users under the age of 34.
The judges of the SBA 2024 said: “Simple and effective on a limited budget, not trying to be anything too complicated with a focus on core fans first.
They added: “This was a great service to all netball players, potential players and fans.”
Speaking on the award win, WN CEO Fiona Harold said: “I am so pleased for the World Netball team that NetballPass has been named the Best Fan Engagement Programme at the Sports Business Awards, in what was a really competitive category.
“NetballPass is allowing us to increase the global reach of netball and make the game more accessible to more people more often, in line with our strategic plan.
“It’s really positive progress that we are now working with three of our Members, England Netball, Netball Australia and Netball New Zealand, to make netball content available globally in a single location, allowing for the international Netball Family to tune in with ease and watch their favourite teams and international stars.
“NetballPass will only have inspired more people to get involved in netball, and we are excited to see what more is to come.”
