Commonwealth Sport has today announced that the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) will take place in Malta in late 2027, with netball included on the sport programme for the second time.
Netball was first included in the event in 2023, in the format of FAST5, however, for this edition of the CYG the 7s format will be played.
Athletics and Para Athletics, Sailing, Squash, Swimming and Para Swimming, Triathlon, Water Polo and Weightlifting will make up the other seven sports on the programme.
CYG 2027 will welcome approximately 1,150 athletes aged 14–18 from Commonwealth Sport’s 74 nations and territories in late 2027, with dates and teams still be confirmed.
Speaking on the excitement of netball’s inclusion, World Netball CEO Fiona Harold said: “We are delighted that netball has been included on the sports programme for the Commonwealth Youth Games 2027, and we are so pleased it will be our Member country, Malta, hosting the event.
“The last Commonwealth Youth Games, Trinbago 2023, provided an invaluable experience for our younger players, giving them the opportunity to play against teams from throughout the Commonwealth for the first time and I have no doubt 2027 will be the same.”
