World Netball (WN) is delighted to announce that the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has today revealed that netball will be included as one of the 10 sports in the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, taking place from the 23rd July – 2nd August 2026.
This comes after Scotland were named as the hosts of the Games last month, and are set to host an innovative event utilising existing sport, transport and accommodation infrastructure across an eight-mile city centre footprint.
Having been an integral part of the Commonwealth Games since Malaysia 1998, netball has continued to attract a significant global audience to the Games over the last 7 editions, with over 150,000 tickets sold for the netball competition at Birmingham 2022 and a further 34.5 million tuning in to watch on Linear TV across netball’s core markets.
Speaking on the joy of being included in Glasgow 2026, WN President, Dame Liz Nicholl DBE said: “We are thrilled that netball will be included in the next edition of the Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
“We know our netball family will be equally as delighted to hear this news, but we are most excited for our athletes who relish the opportunity to participate in this multi-sport format every four years.
“At the last Commonwealth Games, Birmingham 2022, the netball competition once again proved extremely popular with both existing and new fans around the globe, in terms of ticket sales and broadcast reach, and I am positive we will have the same global impact at Glasgow 2026, helping to make the event a huge success.”
WN will make further announcements venues and composition of the netball competition at Glasgow 2026 in the near future.
