Netball Australia and the Netball World Cup Sydney 2027 Local Organising Committee (LOC) are pleased to announce the appointment of highly experienced sports executive John Nicholl to the role of General Manager – Tournament Revenue and Experience.
Commencing as the LOC approaches the exciting ‘2 years to go’ milestone, John will oversee the Netball World Cup Sydney 2027 commercial programme including sponsorship, licensing and retail, ticketing and hospitality, as well as fan experience.
John has more than 25 years’ experience in sales and marketing across sport and entertainment.
Such roles include Marketing Assets Manager for Coca-Cola Australia and eight years as a Business Director with the multi-national marketing services giant WPP AUNZ, including their sports marketing division.
He is also the former General Manager of Commercial and Marketing for Rugby Australia, and was Head of Commercial for ticketing, live entertainment and data analytics company TEG.
More recently, John was the Head of Commercial Revenues for the highly successful FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 in Australia and New Zealand.
John will report into LOC Chief Operating Officer Mark Falvo, who said today he was delighted to have secured John for the role given the calibre of his skills and experience.
“This is a key appointment for the LOC as we build out our overall plans for what will be a truly significant opportunity for international netball, as well as a major global event for Sydney.
“We have some exciting plans to work with some of the biggest and best brands in global sport and business, and John will spearhead the delivery of strong commercial outcomes for netball in Australia,” Mr Falvo said.
Commencing in his role, Mr Nicholl said, “The Netball World Cup Sydney 2027 represents an unbelievably exciting opportunity to partner with the biggest grassroots sport for women and girls in Australia.
“The opportunity to work within the LOC and in collaboration with Netball Australia and World Netball to maximise commercial opportunities across the suite of assets is a unique offering that is now available for brands in the market. In addition, those partners we work with will enjoy the benefits of having their brands broadcast across the globe when all eyes are on us in 2027.
“Together with our athletes and fans, we plan on creating major moments to engage and build momentum with our audiences and I can’t wait to kick things off with our brand unveil this Friday,” Mr Nicholl said.
The Netball World Cup Sydney 2027 is the pinnacle upcoming sporting event in the World Netball calendar and is a chance for Australia to show off its credentials as a host of major international events in its green and gold decade.
