World Netball CEO Clare Briegal elected as Council member of Association of International Olympic Committee (IOC) Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF)

World Netball CEO Clare Briegal has been elected as a Council member of Association of International Olympic Committee (IOC) Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF).

The ARISF General Assembly was held on-line on 15th December and Clare Briegal, the CEO of World Netball was elected to serve on the Council for a term of four years.

ARISF is the world authority grouping all IOC Recognised International Sport Federations. It is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-discriminatory organisation constituted through and recognised by the International Olympic Committee.  In addition to Netball the association counts in its membership 42 International Sports Federations including Cricket, Squash, Orienteering and Lacrosse.

The Council works on behalf of the member Federations to unite, promote, represent and support them in reaching their objectives, and co-ordinate their common interests and goals.  This includes working with the IOC to promote and clarify the pathway for ARISF Sports towards inclusion in the Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games and building the profile of ARISF IF’s with National Olympic Committees (NOC’s) and their regional bodies.

Clare is looking forward to serving on the Council.  She has pledged to working with the ARISF members to promote the importance of safeguarding, building on current activity and ensuring the voice of the athlete is heard in decision making.  Coming from one of one of the biggest women’s team sports Clare looks to provide a different perspective and advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion of all genders and races in the leadership of sport.
