Netball South Africa has confirmed that the Telkom Netball league’s eighth season will begin on the 5th of September.
This year’s edition will be played over two legs, with the first being held in Pretoria from 5th September – 12th September, and the second in Rustenburg between the 9th and 17th October.
However, the current government guidelines due to Covid-19 mean that all 13 teams involved will play behind closed doors.
Netball South Africa has also confirmed that the players who were selected for the SPAR Proteas last week, including Bongiwe Msomi and Izette Griesel, will not be participating in this year’s edition of Telkom Netball League as they will have to travel to Kingston, Jamaica halfway through the competition.
Cecilia Molokwane, the President of Netball South Africa, believes positives must be taken from this as it opens the door for more emerging players to showcase their talents in the league this year.
Molokwane commented: “I am extremely proud because all the 16 players selected for the SPAR Proteas team going to Jamaica, have played in this league over the years meaning the impact TNL is having the necessary impact.
“I’d like to urge every player in TNL this year to seize the moment, this is your time, use it wisely.
“We are thrilled to see the Telkom Netball League back once again this year, providing young women with the opportunity to showcase their skills and compete against the best talent in the country.”
Information regarding fixtures and broadcast details will be available on Netball South Africa’s website in due course.
