Netball Family Unites for The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

The 6th April marks the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP).

This was a day declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2013, creating a historical link between the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 and representing a significant step in recognising the transformative power of sport and its great potential in advancing positive social change.

Since 2014, as a reference to the yellow and red card in the sporting world, on the IDSDP a #WhiteCard has been used to symbolise sport standing in solidarity for peace and development.

World Netball has always supported this day, but this year more than ever we all need to overcome our differences and unite as one team working together to tackle obstacles and create a safer, more peaceful, and more sustainable future for all.

Each year there is also a theme for the day, and this year’s theme is “Securing a Sustainable and Peaceful Future for All: The Contribution of Sport,” which creates an opportunity for the Day’s celebrations to promote the use of sport as a tool to advance human rights and sustainable development.

World Netball prides itself on harnessing the power of sport to change lives, and through our inspirational role models and award-winning development programmes we inspire netballers to embrace opportunities and achieve their full potential both in and out of the sport.

Our strategic plan, under the core value of ‘Inspire’ sets out what we will be doing in the future as we continue this journey to make netball a sport that is open to all and work tirelessly to create a better world through netball.
