As the famous High School Musical song goes, “We’re all in this together”.
This could not be more accurate given the current COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak and its impact on billions of lives across the globe.
Over the past month, we have seen netball matches, both local and international cancelled, tournaments postponed for the season and netball courts closed for the foreseeable future. Despite all of this, our #NetballFamily is showing more strength than ever before, with athletes, clubs and broadcasters coming together to give people inspiration and provide entertainment when we need it most.
If you’re an avid netballer, you know the importance of keeping active. With the majority of the world being asked to #StayAtHome, netballers have taken this in their stride to keep their netball game strong by staying active with home workouts, encouraging people to remain on top of their skills with regular netball sessions, and keeping us entertained with #StayAtHomeChallenges.
Athletes have taken the time to share tips on what you can be doing at home, and for the officiating community, England Netball Officiating has been hosting Facebook Lives to answer all your questions about umpiring. Teams around the world have been supporting each other by sharing netball sessions and fans have been choosing to focus on the ‘best netball moments’ by sharing their favourite images across social media. From inspirational quotes and training tips to toilet roll tricks and dogs playing netball, we’ve seen it all.
We want to keep the momentum going, so we are asking for you to get involved using the hashtag #NetballFamily. Show us your skills, show us your four-legged teammates and tell us what you’re doing at home. Every week we will be picking our favourite to win a prize. We could all do with some new netball kit from Gilbert Netball, right?
In these challenging times, we have seen nothing but love, support and determination from the netball community and we thank you for empowering women and girls during this difficult time and enabling the game of netball to continue off the court.
This is netball. This is our #NetballFamily and in the words of High School Musical, “We make each other strong, we’re not the same, we’re different in a good way, together is where we belong.”
