Gold Coast 2018 was the 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games which is held every four years, with the first taking place in Hamilton, Canada in 1930 (then known as the British Empire Games).
It was the fifth time Australia hosted the Commonwealth Games which was more than any other nation. Previous Games to have taken place in Australia have been Sydney 1938, Perth 1962, Brisbane 1982 and most recently Melbourne 2006.
The Gold Coast welcomed over 6,600 athletes and team officials from 70 different nations and territories for eleven days of high quality competition over eighteen different sports and seven different para-sports.
For the first time ever, the Games had an equal number of medal events for both men and women.
Seventeen different venues featured at the Gold Coast 2018, with the netball action taking place at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre and the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre. The medal matches took place in the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre.
For the Gold Coast 2018, qualification was determined on July 1 2017. The top 12 teams in the INF world Rankings at that time were as follows:
Australia, New Zealand, England, Jamaica, South Africa, Malawi, Fiji, Wales, Uganda, Northern Ireland, Barbados and Scotland.
