Day 3 Round-Up – Netball World Youth Cup 2025

Day three of the Netball World Youth Cup 2025 (NWYC2025) got underway with an exciting and intense battle at the Europa Sports complex between Fiji and Malawi, with both teams fighting for every ball from start to finish.

Malawi came out strong and springy in the first half, taking an early lead by a couple of goals, but Fiji responded with resilience, scoring a decisive goal in the final seconds to edge ahead at halftime.

In the second half, Fiji maintained their momentum and held the lead for much of the game, but Malawi refused to back down.

In a dramatic last-second play, Malawi scored the winning goal, snatching a thrilling 52–51 victory in a match that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Next up was a match betwen Trinidad and Tobago and South Africa which the baby SPAR Proteas dominated from the start.

South Africa’s defence forced multiple turnovers, relentlessly hunting every ball and converting their opportunities with precision.

Due to this, it took Trinidad & Tobago nine minutes to score their first goal.

Despite Trinidad & Tobagos’s determination, South Africa’s pace and intensity were unmatched, leading to a commanding 105–15 victory. 

Match 19 began closely contested, with Samoa slipping ahead towards the end of the first quarter against Singapore.

Samoa’s goal shooter Tava’e Tatupu was exceptional, maintaining strong holds and accurate shooting, while the team’s defence applied constant pressure, making it difficult for Singapore to score.

Singapore displayed great teamwork and movement throughout the court, finding moments to challenge Samoa and generate scoring opportunities despite the pressure. 

In match 20, Australia showcased excellent team connections once again throughout the match, moving the ball smoothly and controlling the tempo.

The Scottish crowd was loud and passionate, rallying behind their team, who worked tirelessly to stay close behind Australia the entire match. 

Australia’s physical style of play was evident, as they stood their ground and disrupted Scotland’s flow, making it difficult for them to create scoring opportunities.

Despite Scotland’s determination and crowd support, Australia’s cohesion and strength proved too much, as they powered to a 69-42 win.

In match 22, Cook Islands started strongly, taking the lead and keeping Malaysia pinned high in their attacking third, making it difficult for them to settle into the game.

Malaysia struggled in the second quarter as Cook Islands continued to apply pressure, but they came back fighting hard after halftime.

It proved too little too late from Malaysia, as Cook Islands claimed a 66–44 victory.

To end day 3, England took to court for the first time this competition and delivered a dominant performance against Wales, showcasing their strength and composure throughout the match.

The England defence was relentless, cutting off options and forcing turnovers, while in attack, there was always an option available, keeping their play smooth and controlled – despite making multiple changes to their team throughout the court.

Their physicality set the tone, with the team standing strong in every contest and maintaining discipline under pressure.

Wales, showed moments of determination, working hard to break through England defence and create opportunities, but they struggled to match the pace and consistency of their opposition.

In the end, England’s control and precision secured a commanding 65–28 victory.
