ANZ Premiership International Player Watch – Round 2

Round 2 of the ANZ Premiership (ANZP) took place this weekend, live and on demand on NetballPass, Sky Sport and TVNZ, with Stars and Steel claiming their first victories of the season, and Mystics remaining the leagues only unbeaten side.

Here is this weeks International Player Watch: 

Mystics vs Pulse

Defending Champions Mystics did exactly what their title says in Round 2 of the ANZP: defend.

The team collectively made 10 interceptions in this match, as they beat Pulse 59-48.

Catherine Hall, who made her international debut for New Zealand at the FAST5 Netball World Series 2024, was key to Mystics defensive efforts as she made five interceptions and five deflections at goal keeper.

Stars vs Tactix

Stars began to shine in Round 2, as they bounced back from their Round 1 defeat to beat Tactix 57-52.

The home side were ahead marginally at every quarter break and were able to hold off a Tactix final quarter comeback to take the all-important win.

Fijian defender Liliviwa Tokaduadua was crucial to Stars marginal victory as she made five interceptions, and three deflections helping her side have the upper edge.

Magic vs Steel

Steel also recorded their first win of the ANZP season in Round 2, and they did it in style as they beat Magic 69-41, winning all four quarters of the contest.

Silver Fern Kimiora Poi was key at centre as she used her experience and skill, acting as a real play maker and leader in this game, putting in 25 goal assists and 42 feeds whilst also making one interception and two deflections.
