World Netball (WN) has today updated the WN World Rankings, with New Zealand closing in on the world number one, Australia.
Following the Silver Ferns gold medal success at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG) they have reduced the rating gap between themselves 2nd and Australia (1st) from 10 to six.
There are no ranking changes in the top six.
The first ranking change can be seen at 7th, with CWG debutants Tonga moving up one place after they beat both Northern Ireland and Wales at Glasgow 2026.
Malawi’s 7th placed finish in Scotland also sees them move up one place in the WN World Rankings to 8th, whilst Wales have dropped down two places to 9th and Northern Ireland one place to 15th.
Other events in this WN World Rankings update include the North American Cup, the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games and the Netball World Cup Sydney 2027 (NWC2027) Qualifier Asia.
The biggest change in WN World Ranking came from St Lucia after they won two of their matches at the CAC Games, moving them from 31st to 26th, whilst Bermuda dropped two places to 23rd.
At the North American Cup, Canada lost one of their games against the USA seeing them drop five places from 25th to 30th, whilst for the USA the three matches meant they reached the minimum number of matches required in a ranking period (8) and re-gained their ranking, entering the table at 40th.
The Maldives and India also re-gained their WN World Ranking entering the table at 43rd and 47th thanks to their involvement in the NWC2027 Qualifier Asia taking the number of WN World Ranked countries up to 50.
Other changes from the NWC2027 Qualifier Asia included the event hosts Hong Kong, China increasing their rating by three to move up one ranking place to 33rd, whilst Malaysia also moved up two places to 34th.
Singapore and Hong Kong, China finished in the top two at the event and qualified for the NWC2027 taking place in Sydney between the 25th August – 5th September 2027.
The remaining NWC2027 Qualifiers in Africa, Americas, Europe and Oceania will take place between September – October this year with eight places at the NWC2027 still up for grabs.
