The England Roses and Malawi Queens got us underway on day three at the OVO Hydro, with both teams entering this match searching for their second win of the competition.
England started strong scoring five goals before Malawi were able to net one, and eventually finished the first quarter nine goals up.
Despite the Queen’s best efforts to bounce back, and periods of goal for goal action in the second quarter, it was England that continued to dominate rotating all 12 players and winning the first game of the day 73 – 38.
Session one of the day then continued with Pool A’s two winless sides Tonga and Northern Ireland going head-to-head.
At goal attack the Warriors Orlaith Rogers set the tone for the game making the first interception followed by the first goal assist.
What followed was a closely contested match-up, with both teams working tirelessly to win ball.
It was the Tonga Tala’s accuracy under post that ultimately proved the difference in the first half with Uneeq Palavi shooting at 96% and Marie Payn 100%, to give their side a 31 – 26 lead going into the main break.
Northern Ireland fought back in the 3rd quarter and were within three of Tonga Tala at one stage, however, hungry for their first ever Commonwealth Games (CWG) win the Tala stayed strong and finished the game 58 – 52.
From one thriller to another, World Netball World Ranked number four and six, Jamaica and Uganda, opened up the evening session at the OVO Hydro with a nail biting clash.
Uganda came out firing in the first quarter making five interceptions and five gains in the first 15 minutes giving themselves a 12 -15 lead.
The tables turned in the second quarter, with Jamaica finding their rhythm winning the quarter 17 – 10 and setting up a show stopping second half.
With 15 minutes to go only four goals separated the two teams, but it was Jamaica that eventually pulled away to win their 50th CWG match 55 – 49.
For the final game of the day the hosts Scotland took on Trinidad & Tobago and the Thistles wasted no time in giving their home fans something to sing about as they went 7 – 2 up within five minutes.
Scotland continued to extend their lead throughout, before eventually winning 77 – 27.
The victory marks Scotland’s highest ever CWG score and their first ever back to back victories at a Games too – both on home soil!
