Melbourne Vixens vs Melbourne Mavericks
It was a history making weekend for Melbourne Mavericks, as they qualified for the Finals and beat their Melbourne rivals Vixens, both for the first time in SSN history.
Saturday evening’s matches meant that both teams already had their Finals places locked in before taking to court on Sunday, however, in true derby style the two teams did not let that hold them back.
An evenly contested first half saw the teams go into the main break at 25 – 25 leaving it all still to play for in the second half.
Australian Jessie Grenvold was on fire in the third quarter half for Mavericks, claiming crucial rebounds and deflections that helped her side to push ahead again going into the final quarter.
Mavericks then charged to the final whistle scoring a flurry of goals late in the 4th quarter to see them win 50 – 59.

Giants Netball vs West Coast Fever
Giants Netball have once again been left searching for their first win of the season, despite an outstanding performance, as they agonisingly fell to the hands of West Coast Fever losing 60 – 61.
Throughout all four quarters Giants showed they were here to compete, and with three quarters gone they led by two goals; a testament to their performance.
Giants’ defensive duo of young Australian Erin O’Brien and Jamaican Sunshine Girl Jodi-Ann Ward combined well in the circle and were exciting to watch.
However, the final quarter belonged to Fever with their shooters Jamaican Sunshine Girl Romelda Aiken-George and England Rose Sasha Glasgow stepping up when it mattered most, converting their shots calmly under pressure.
Giants continued to fight back, but there was just no way of breaking the Fever attack in the final 15 minutes.
