Stars make unwanted history in the ANZ Premiership, as Pulse reclaim the top spot

Round 12 of the ANZ Premiership (ANZP) took place this weekend live on NetballPass with Stars making some unwanted history, whilst Mystics upset the table toppers Tactix giving Pulse the chance to claim back the top spot.

Magic welcomed Stars to the Mercury Baypark Arena, where Stars yet again got so close yet so far from the win as they lost 51-47.

The defeat margin was enough for them to pick up one bonus point, but not enough to see them claim all three.

This 9th bonus point means that Stars have now picked up the most bonus points ever in an ANZP season.

It once again came down to not being clinical enough off the turnover for Stars, as their counterparts were able convert 98% of their turnovers, whilst Stars only converted 58% of theirs to goals.

Samoa’s Saviour Tui was key for Magic as she scored 37 out of 42 of her shots, teaming up with Silver Fern Ameliaranne Ekenasio who missed just two shots all game.

The win for Magic means that they now sit 3rd in the league, just one point above Mystics in 4th.

Mystics did everything that they could this weekend to ensure that they stayed hot on the tails of Magic, as they beat then top of the table Tactix 49-61 live on NetballPass.

The visitors were boosted by the return of Grace Nweke, who in week two back in action managed to play 37 strong minutes.

The Silver Fern scored 41 goals in this time, whilst also collecting 5 rebounds helping put her team off to the best start, as they won the first quarter 21-11.

From then on, the two teams took it in turns to win the quarters, with Tactix winning the second and fourth, however they never did quite enough for bounce back from their first quarter deficit.

Elsewhere Pulse were playing bottom of the table Steel, and the away side did not miss a beat as they proved too strong for Steel beating them 38-65, stealing the top post of Tactix.

The first quarter in this contest was a close one with Pulse only leading by one at the first break, but they soon upped their defensive pressure and made sure the game only went one way.

Silver Fern Kelly Jackson was unstoppable making 15 gains, six intercepts and seven deflections for Pulse, as they went on to win the remaining three quarters.
