Manchester Thunder made their mark in the Netball Super League (NSL) this weekend, as they struck down defending champions Loughborough Lightning with a penultimate quarter comeback live on NetballPass.
As expected, it was a close encounter as the two teams entered the match top of the table on the same points.
With just one goal separating the two teams at half-time, and both Lightning’s Ugandan She Crane Shooter, Mary Cholhok and Thunder’s SPAR Protea shooter Elmerè van der Berg shooting at over 90%, it was clear that this match was going to go down to the fine margins.
One player that stepped up for Thunder when it mattered most was England Rose, Imogen Allison, who was dominant in the mid court making four deflections and a gain, helping her side win the third quarter 17-13 to put the game in their hands.
Thunder went on to win the match 57-61, with Allison awarded Player of the Match, and you can catch up on all the action on NetballPass now.
Elsewhere, the Netball Family were also treated to Severn Stars vs Cardiff Dragons, and it was clear from the start Stars were out to get revenge on Dragons, who beat them earlier in the season, as they shot into the first quarter, winning it 17-13 in front of their home fans.
Once again it was another SPAR Protea shooter, this time Stars Sigi Burger, who shot at over 90% and made the difference for her team.
Dragons made a comeback in the third quarter, winning the 15-minute period 9-11 but it was not enough to catch high flighting Stars, who bounced back to win the final quarter 16-7 cementing their 56-41 victory,
