World Netball Ambassador, Bongi Msomi’s, Message On Africa Day 2022

Today, May 25th, marks Africa Day, a day which marks the founding of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963 and is celebrated throughout the continent of Africa.

It was on this day in 1963, that the African continent began to focus on continental unity, change, freedom and independence for many African countries.

In celebration of the Organisation of African Unity, which is now known as the African Union, each year events and celebrations are held throughout Africa on the 25th May.

We spoke to World Netball Ambassador for the Africa Region and SPAR Proteas captain, Bongi Msomi, about what Africa Day meant to her, she said:

“It means embracing and enjoying different cultures, unity, inclusion, equality, humanity and independence for the growth and development of Africa and the world at large.

“We are a beautiful continent that is so diverse and brings the meaning of belonging and unity.

“Celebrating this day reminds us all of the importance of Ubuntu!

“Viva Africa. Happy Africa Day.”

World Netball would like to join its Regional Federation, Africa Netball, and its 20 African Members – including the hosts of the Netball World Cup 2023, South Africa – in celebrating this important day.
