New Zealand’s ANZ Premiership: Grand Final International Player Watch

This week is our final International Player Watch of the season for the ANZ Premiership.

Following the Grand Final on Sunday, when Mystics beat Stars 74-56, here are just some of the international stars that stood out.

Sulu Fitzpatrick – Mystics / New Zealand

New Zealand Silver Fern, Sulu Fitzpatrick, bowed out of netball in style at the weekend as she captained Mystics to victory in her 154th and final national league game.

Fitzpatrick made one interception and four gains, as she expertly lead her team from the back at goal keeper.

Grace Nweke – Mystics / New Zealand

Finishing the season as the league’s top goal scorer, with 835 goal to her name, it is no surprise that Grace Nweke was a standout out player in the final.

Nweke equalled her highest individual score in a 60-minute match, scoring 70 goals in the Grand Final, and was later rewarded for this with a call up to the Silver Fern’s Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 squad.

Nweke’s tally of 70 goals also helped Mystics break a record of their own, as the 74 goals they scored made it their highest score in a 60-minute match.

Maia Wilson – Stars / New Zealand

Although Stars fell to the hands of Mystics early on in this match, with two opening quarter defeats, Silver Fern Maia Wilson still produced under the post at nearly every opportunity given.

In the 60-minutes she played Wilson score 38 of her 42 shots, putting her second in the leagues goal scoring charts, only behind now league champion Nweke.

The Netball Family will get to see both the league’s top goal scorers, Wilson and Nweke, at the Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 as they have both been selected to represent the Silver Ferns.

World Netball would like to congratulate Mystics on their Grand Final victory.
