Commonwealth Games Federation Announces FAST5 Netball as one of seven sports at the Commonwealth Youth Games Trinbago 2023.

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has today confirmed the Sport Programme for the Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games, with FAST5 female netball one of the seven sports included.

The Games, taking place from the 4th-11th August 2023, will feature athletes aged 14-18 and take place in two clusters, one in Couva, Trinidad and the other Tobago, to bring a diverse perspective on the twin island country to the nations of the Commonwealth, as well as showcase a festival of the country’s activities.

The other six sports, that will feature alongside FAST5 female netball are now confirmed as:

  • Aquatics (Swimming) – male and female
  • Athletics – male and female
  • Cycling – (Road Race, Time Trail and Track) – male and female
  • Rugby Sevens – male and female
  • Triathlon – male and female
  • Beach Volleyball – male and female

CGF President Dame Louise Martin said: “We are delighted to confirm the Sport Programme for the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games, featuring much-anticipated debuts in the Youth Games for the dynamic and innovative FAST5 Netball and Triathlon.

“It promises to be a thrilling and competitive Games and exceptional showcasing of Caribbean and Commonwealth Sport.

“An invaluable springboard for the stars and leaders of tomorrow, the Games will be a truly special and inspiring experience for young athletes from across the Commonwealth.”

Speaking on the announcement World Netball President, Liz Nicholl CBE, said: “We are just months away from the return of our FAST5 Netball World Series on 5th and 6th November in Christchurch, NZ, so now to have the debut of FAST5 at the next Commonwealth Youth Games, it’s a really exciting time for our sport.

“In our strategic plan we set out our ambition to develop and promote game variations such as FAST5 in addition to our core product of netball 7’s, and this announcement confirms the appeal of the FAST5 format in a multisport setting.”
