World Netball and Netball New Zealand set to attend the IWG-Women in Sport Conference in Auckland New Zealand this year.

World Netball and Netball New Zealand will be attending the International Women’s Group – Women in Sport (IWG WIS) Conference in Auckland New Zealand from the 14th-17th November 2022.

The IWG-WIS was established in 1994 and is the world’s largest network dedicated to advancing gender equality and equality in sport, physical education, and physical activity and every four years it stages the IWG World Conference on Women & Sport.

This year the organisers are hoping to attract around 1500 attendees and they are well on the way to doing this, with delegates from all major sports and sporting organisations such as the International Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games.

With the conference taking place just 10 days after the World Netball FAST5 World Series in Christchurch, we hope that World Netball Members travelling to New Zealand might also stay on and attend the conference too.

On top of the conference held every 4 years the IWG advocates and runs many other programmes globally around the year, and in the past helped to develop, and now remains guardian of, the Brighton plus Helsinki 2014 Declaration, which now has the commitment of nearly 600 signatories worldwide.  In 2017, IWG Host Co-Chairperson Ruth Maphorisa addressed the World Netball Congress in Botswana before a mass signing of the declaration.

In September 2021 the IWG-WIS launched a world first Insight Hub – an interactive collection of research, case studies, toolkits and news contributed from all over the world.

World Netball is currently working on its contribution to the insight hub and is encouraging its Members to do the same to promote the work they are doing to enhance gender equity and equality in sport.
