International Player Watch – Round Four of the UK’s Vitality Netball Superleague

Round four of the Vitality Netball Superleague took place this weekend, with six matches across the four days.

It was Surrey Storm that took to court twice this round, securing their first win of the season against Team Bath, 58-62, and then falling to the hands of Loughborough Lightning, 56-72, in the last match of the round.

Uganda and Storm shooter, Proscovia Peace, once again displayed a shooting masterclass as she netted 53 of Storm’s 62 goals against Bath, and 49 of their 56 against Lightning.

Meanwhile for Lightning, the stand-out international players were England attacking duo Hannah Joseph and Natalie Panagarry, who between them made 39 feeds into the circle.

Elsewhere, Celtic Dragons welcomed Leeds Rhinos to Sport Wales in Cardiff for a closely contested match where the battle between Wales’ and Dragons player Nia Jones and Rhino’s Amelia Hall was one to watch, as Rhino’s eventually beat the home side 57-52.

It was another winning weekend for Saracens Mavericks too, who beat Severn Stars 62-52, to remain unbeaten this season.

Mavericks had stand out international players at both ends of the court in their victory, in the shooting circle it was South Africa’s Ine-Mari Venter who shined as she scored 49 of Mav’s 62 goals, before being awarded Player of the Match, and in the defensive circle it was England Rose, Razie Quashie, who made seven turnovers, six deflections and three intercepts.

Another team that remained unbeaten was Manchester Thunder, who beat Strathclyde Sirens 60-71 at the Emirates Arena in Scotland.

Northern Ireland Warrior and Thunder defender, Caroline O’Hanlon put out a dominant display throughout the court at centre as she made 23 feeds into the attacking circle and secured turnovers and interceptions in defence.

Finally, London Pulse got back to winning ways in round four when they beat Wasps 52-35 at the Copper Box Arena.

It was Pulse and England netballer, Olivia Tchine, who was awarded Player of the Match after she scored 37 of Pulse’s 52 goals.

Well done to all teams in  round four!
