World Mental Health Day 2021

World Mental Health Day is observed every year on the 10th of October, with the overall aim of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilising efforts in support of mental health.

This year the theme of the day, chosen annually by the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH), is ‘Mental Health in an Unequal World.”

The topic aims to highlight how access to mental health services remains unequal, with between 75-95% of people with mental health disorders in low and middle-income countries unable to access mental health services.

The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the effects of inequality on health outcomes and no nation, no matter how poor or rich has been fully prepared for this.

The pandemic has put extra strain on people’s mental health with more people experiencing bereavement and job losses, and physical distancing leading to social isolation.

This World Mental Health Day, World Netball will support WFMH by encouraging the Netball Family to check in their friends and family around the world and by raising awareness of the inequalities that exist throughout the global community.
