We continue our build up to this weekends Netball Europe World Cup 2019 Qualifiers by looking at World Cup regulars; Wales.
Wales currently 9th in the INF World Rankings, have only missed out on one World Cup in their history, which was way back in 1967. With the World Cup in Liverpool being so close to the Welsh border, Trish Wilcox’s side will be desperate not to miss their first World Cup in 51 years.
Much like Scotland, Wales defeated Samoa in a two match test series last time they were on court. In both games Wales scored over seventy points winning the first game 72-46 and the second game 71-45.
Head Coach Trish Wilcox has made three changes to the squad that faced Samoa in the Wendy White Series. Lateisha Kidner, Clare Jones and Kelly Morgan all return to the squad.
Wales met both Scotland and Northern Ireland last October in the Netball Europe Open. During that competition, Wales did suffer two defeats. Scotland defeated Wales 58-49 and Northern Ireland defeated the Welsh by a single goal, 46-47. Both of those games were closely contested and could have gone either way.
The first game of the weekend will feature Wales on the Friday night (19th), against the Scottish Thistles. Wales will also play the next day on the Saturday afternoon against Northern Ireland.
