Silver Ferns announce Quad Series squad

The Quad Series returns next month and the reigning champions New Zealand have announced their squad that will be making the trip over to the Northern Hemisphere.

Coach Janine Southby has selected her fourteen that will be attempting to defend their title late next month. New Zealand begin their campaign against England in London. The last time the sides met in this competition it was the Roses who were successful.  The Silver Ferns then travel over to Johannesburg to play South Africa before a showdown against World Champions Australia.

Coach Southby identifies that there is a significant amount of travel in this tour and was a factor upon selecting the squad.

‘This is a big tour in terms of the travel with short turnarounds between flying from New Zealand, playing in England and then on to South Africa’

‘For that reason we are travelling with 14. This will enable us to continue to develop and build depth and combinations across the squad.’

With the Commonwealth Games approaching and the World Cup not a million miles away, Southby recognises the importance of this tour.

‘The Commonwealth Games (April) is the immediate focus but we’re also mindful the 2019 Netball World Cup is not that far away either and the more time we get with our athletes and continuing to fine-tune their readiness and preparation is all part of the bigger picture.’
